At the end of the financial, your company must prepare statutory annual accounts and a company tax return. You have 12 months after your financial year to submit your tax return and annual accounts to HMRC and 9 months and 1 day after your financial year to pay your corporation tax.
Unless you have reached the minimum audit threshold, you are allowed to prepare your company’s annual accounts. However, we highly recommend hiring a professional to avoid any mistakes as you might end up paying penalties if the accounts are not prepared correctly.
You must keep records for 6 years from the end of the last company financial year they relate to, or longer if: they show a transaction that covers more than one of the company’s accounting periods.
You must register your business for VAT in the next 30 days when you realise a total VAT taxable turnover of over GBP 85,000.
To set up payroll, you need to register with HMRC. It can take up to 5 working days to get your employer’s PAYE reference number, which you’ll need in your payroll software to submit payroll to HMRC.
Previously called an annual return, the Confirmation Statement is an online document submitted to Companies House each year to confirm some information related to the company. Failure to comply with this requirement could result in prosecutions.
